Overview
The purpose of the Center for Health Equity in the Americas (CenHealth) is to conduct and promote student/faculty national and international research, collaborations, and intervention programs on solutions to health disparities throughout the Americas (North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean); that will contribute to closing gaps in vulnerable populations in achieving health equity. CenHealth is directed by Dr. Lourdes Baezconde-Garbanati (Director) and Dr. Mary Ann Pentz (Co-Director), both Professors in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences. This center is funded by the Keck School of Medicine Dean’s office at USC. It is housed in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research.
Mission Statement
The Center for Health Equity in the Americas’ mission is to encourage, foster, and facilitate research in the Americas. We seek to promote health equity and the elimination of health disparities among the diverse population in the Americas from the northern tip of Alaska to the southern tip of Chile.
Goals
- To facilitate partnerships and collaboration among students, faculty, policy makers, practitioners and researchers to achieve health equity in the Americas.
- To create a virtual space where the sharing of health equity-related resources, research, and evidence-based practices can take place.
- To convene students, faculty, researchers, and stakeholders in order to have discussions, disseminate research and advance health equity.
