On Saturday, December 14, 2024, we celebrated our 6th Cancer in the Community Conference titled “Improving Patient Outcomes Through Clinical Studies”. It was very well attended, with over 90 people attending. It was put on as a joint effort between the Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination Programs (CRTEC) and the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at USC and in collaboration with partners in The Florida-California Cancer Research, Education and Engagement (CaRE2) Health Equity Center (a bi-coastal cancer research and training center that brings together Florida A&M University (FAMU), the University of Florida (UF) Cancer Center, and the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center (USC-NCCC)), Lazarex, the Men’s Cancer Network, Celebrate Life Ministry, Center for Optimizing Engagement of Hispanic Colorectal Cancer Patients in Cancer Genomic Characterization Studies (COPECC), and the Department of Population Health and Public Health Sciences (DPPHS) and Keck Medicine of USC. We had two keynote speakers, including Dr. Chanita Hughes Halbert and Dr. Anthony El Khoueiry. There was also a recognition ceremony led by Dr. Caryn Lerman and Dr. Mariana Stern, breakout sessions by physicians working with patients in lung, prostate, liver, and colorectal cancer led by Drs. Dickey, Zhou, Nieva and Lenz. We had a community panel discussion as well. Thank you to all that attended.
