Last week, a young Peruvian man left his house to go to work and he was assaulted on his way to the metro. When he tried to resist, the thief stabbed him twice in the chest, and he fell to the ground. A paramedic that was on his way to work saw the injured young man staggering across the street and stopped to help him, to give him first aid. When he saw that the man was bleeding from the chest, he took off his shirt and applied pressure to the wound. I was watching all of this with shock and sadness. The ambulance took almost one hour to arrive, and the police were there. A lot of time passed, and we waited. It was infuriating. What happened is a health issue. I feel that the ambulance service was very slow, and also I think that the violence in our community gets worse every day. You can’t go out with peace of mind.
